Mansfield i-centre

The mansfield i-centre is a prestigious, successful and highly acclaimed business incubator and innovation centre which was managed by ANGLE from its inception in March 2001 until April 2010.

At the heart of the i–centre’s success is the partnership created between ANGLE, Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and the East Midlands Development Agency. Together these partners have steered the strategic direction of the centre over the past nine years.

The i-centre provides a focus for Mansfield’s economic development by working in partnership with other local business support agencies and private sector providers.

The centre acts as a catalyst for the formation, development and growth of local, innovative, technology and knowledge based businesses. These businesses have the potential to grow in an accelerated and sustainable manner bringing with them the benefit of higher skilled and higher value jobs and associated wealth creation. Businesses are expected to spend a time-limited growth period within the i-centre and then graduate on to larger accommodation within the area.

Ten years of highly successful management by ANGLE generated the following outcomes:

  • Occupancy of in excess of 85% from year 2 onwards
  • Financial break-even in year 4 of operation
  • Annual operating surplus achieved from year 4
  • Tenant satisfaction rating of management and business support services in excess of 95% since opening
  • Over 70 tenant businesses supported in nine years
  • 40 successful business graduations since opening
  • 36 new start businesses created
  • Combined current turnover of tenant businesses circa £15 million
  • 190 people currently employed in the centre
  • 365 jobs created or safeguarded since opening.

The i-centre has recently been accredited as a European Community Business and Innovation Centre and is part of the East Midlands BIC. Many of the i-centre’s companies have grown successfully and moved on as bigger businesses, creating further employment opportunities and contributing significantly to the local and regional economy.
