ANGLE’s patented liquid biopsy platform and associated assays have the potential to be used throughout the cancer care pathway to provide clinicians with individualised, up-to-date, and clinically actionable insight into every patient’s cancer. Liquid biopsies involve sampling and analysis of peripheral blood to identify signs of cancer. Liquid biopsy is minimally invasive and can be undertaken safely in community clinics to provide patients with a rapid diagnosis and timely treatment with targeted therapies. Liquid biopsy may also help to safely monitor cancer patients in remission to provide early warning of recurrence.

In 2021 ANGLE opened GCLP compliant clinical laboratories in Guildford (UK) and in the Greater Philadelphia area (USA) to provide “pharma services” for cancer drug trials and, once the labs are accredited, laboratory developed tests (LDTs) for patient management. We are also pursuing an FDA product clearance for the Parsortix^® system and have submitted a full De Novo submission, which is currently in substantive review with the FDA.

This is an exciting time at ANGLE and our research and development facility in Toronto is looking for a Research Associate to join our Technology Solutions team.

The role of the Research Associate in the Technology Solutions department is to execute laboratory tasks and conduct scientific studies to advance platform and clinical assay development, verification and validation.  Their primary responsibility is to provide laboratory services in cell and molecular biology utilizing the company’s core technologies.

They are also responsible for planning/conducting experiments, data analysis and writing scientific reports to support product development and to innovate improvements to existing products and procedures.

The Research Associate works in a regulated and multi-disciplinary environment requiring extensive inter-departmental liaison and coordination.

The Research Associate works on projects that may require considerable innovation resulting in a major impact on company performance, following set goals and determined route(s) to delivery.  The incumbent works to ensure success of projects, company goals and milestone delivery.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Provide laboratory services in cell culture, blood processing (Parsortix), cell staining, immunoassay and gene expression analysis for clinical assay and platform development activities
• Participate in the development, optimization, verification, and validation of assays under design control in support of corporate research and product development programs
• Prepare experimental specification and report documents as assigned
• Perform and accurately and formally document results from experimentation, device and assay designs and verification tests in a timely manner
• Implement design controls, verification, and validation strategies in compliance with relevant regulatory guidelines and with minimal supervision
• Collect, analyze, prepare, and present summaries of data
• Develop and maintain laboratory procedures and equipment consistent with QSRs
• Contribute to the development of new products and ideas through scientific studies, literature reviews and observation
• Represent the company externally as required through participation in partner projects and customer technical support
• Provide training to other staff members when assigned
• Perform such other duties and responsibilities that are consistent with the role of a Research Associate or as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Attributes:

• BSc in life sciences, preferably in the field of oncology, molecular biology, or cell biology OR an equivalent combination of commercial experience and formal education
• 1-3 years research lab experience, preferably in an industrial biotechnology or diagnostic company operating in a regulated manufacturing or product development environment
• 1-2 years of laboratory experience in at least one of the following: mammalian cell culture; cell staining; immunoassays; molecular biology; working with human blood
• Proficient in routine laboratory skills (e.g. pipetting, operation of laboratory equipment)
• Working knowledge of appropriate regulatory requirements (e.g. cGMP, ISO, WHMIS, Occupational Safety)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Strong scientific/technical aptitude
• Willingness and flexibility in undertaking new tasks
• Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills
• Strong commitment to producing high quality results in support of project goals
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines
• Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
