Liquid biopsies involve sampling and analysis of peripheral blood to identify signs of cancer. Liquid biopsy is minimally invasive and can be undertaken safely in community clinics to provide patients with a rapid diagnosis and timely treatment with targeted therapies. Liquid biopsy may also help to safely monitor cancer patients in remission to provide early warning of recurrence.

In 2021 ANGLE opened GCLP compliant clinical laboratories in Guildford (UK) and in the Greater Philadelphia area (USA) to provide “pharma services” for cancer drug trials and, once the labs are accredited, laboratory developed tests (LDTs) for patient management.

In May 2022, ANGLE achieved FDA clearance for a novel medical device for the capture and harvest of circulating tumour cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast cancer patient blood for subsequent analysis.

This is an exciting time at ANGLE and our research and development facilities in Guildford, UK are looking for a Scientist I specialising in Biological Engineering.

This important position, will join ANGLE’s Product and Technology Development (PTD) team to primarily support the development of the Parsortix® Technology. In brief, we are looking for a candidate who is keen to work in a skilled interdisciplinary team at the interface of Biology and Engineering. The candidate will be a pro-active team player contributing to the smooth running of our laboratory by providing technical support to the scientific and engineering team, developing clinical diagnostic products. Due to the inherent nature of product development work, it is expected that the candidate is comfortable with repetitious work and that they can demonstrate a good eye for detail through constant observation. Goals and routes are agreed weekly with the supervisor, but an ability to work independently is expected.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Hands-on laboratory bench work, primarily in the area of medical device development.
• Provide scientific and technical support to programmes and projects.
• Responsible for on-time and on-budget delivery of work packages within a project, including timely reporting of progress on projects and on metrics to monitor and mitigate risk and to ensure product deadlines are met.
• Responsible for quality and regulatory compliance of work undertaken.
• Independently keep a current knowledge base in relevant areas of scientific and technical research.
• Manage the day to day running of assigned development projects within the Quality Management System (ISO13485:2016) and working to the New Product Development (NPD) operating procedure.
• Undertake additional adhoc / project work as required.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Attributes:

• Sc. in either Life Sciences or Engineering.
• Basic laboratory skills including but not limited to, pipetting and reagent preparation.
• Experience working to strict quality standards such as Medical Device regulations and standards including, but not limited to, 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, 93/42/EEC, IVD 98/79 EC, ISO14971, GMP, GLP, QSR.
• A strong understanding of the importance of accurate record keeping within a strictly controlled quality system is essential.
• Manage and deliver product development projects to agreed performance specifications, on time and within budget.
• Organisational skills and the ability to rapidly prioritise tasks in response to unexpected opportunities or risks.
• Excellent accuracy and attention to detail in practical and written work.
• Strong team player with excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Good report writing skills, with the ability to communicate results to technical and non-technical staff.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Continuous learner with a keen appetite for cross-disciplinary work.
• A flexible, can-do approach to the requirements of the job.
• Entrepreneurial thinking and work ethic.

Due to nature of role, the requirement is for Guildford based, office hours and 5 days per week, with flexibility to work shift patterns if required.
